Praveen Sood is the Director General and Inspector General of Police of Karnataka. He has hitherto been known as one of the most dynamic and result oriented Police Commissioner of a metropolitan city in the history of India. He has changed the way policing was done as the Commissioner of Bengaluru.

Praveen Sood was born in Himachal Pradesh and brought up in Delhi. His father, late Om Prakash Sood, was a government clerk in Delhi while his mother, late Kamlesh Sood, was a teacher at a Delhi Government school. After completing his schooling, Praveen had cracked IIT JEE Entrance examination and had gotten admission in the prestigious IIT – Delhi. He has done B. Tech. with Electrical Engineering. He had another change of mind after B. Tech. and decided to go for Civil Services. He had sailed through at UPSC CSE in his very first attempt and was allotted IPS with Karnataka cadre.

Praveen Sood is known as an innovative and honest police officer since his first posting at Mysuru in 1989. He has also done MBA in Public Police and Management from IIM – Ahmedabad.

Wife and Family

Praveen Sood was in news when his daughter had gotten married with Indian Cricketer Mayank Aggarwal. His wife Vineeta Sood is a social entrepreuner. The couple has two daughters and both of them are doing great at their chosen field.
