NEWS and Recognition: Riyaz Naikoo was killed by the Indian Security Forces on 6th May in his village Beighpora. It was only the third time when he was in his village after 2012.

Riyaz was the biggest headache for India after Burhan Wani. The elimination of Riyaz has also given the security forces a sort of balm as they had lost two officers only two days back.

  1. Riyaz was first arrested in 2010. At that time, he was completely an innocent and law abiding person. He was kept in the jail for quite a long duration – 2 years – for a crime he had never committed.
  2. Riyaz had become the head of Hizbul Mujahideen after Zakir Musa defected from the organization in 2017.
  3. Indian Army had ensured that Riyaz didn't slip this time. That's why they had prepared extensively, including using excavator to dug up around his village to eliminate any possibility of tunnel.
